About Us: Our Church History
In 1969, Lewis T. Hilton Sr., was appointed pastor of Revival Temple church in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1971, he founded Church of Deliverance, which was located on the corner of York and Baymiller Streets in what is known as the West End section of Cincinnati. The church moved to Gilbert Avenue and then on to Brewster & Montgomery Roads soon after due to structural problems. The church remained there six years, after which, another move was made, this time to the Lower Price Hill area of Cincinnati.
The time spent in this section of town tested the congregation's resolve and trust in the Lord. Racial problems between the community residents and church members led to car tires being slashed, car windows being broken, and repeated vandalism on the church building. At one point, the Cincinnati Police Dept. had patrol cars parked in front of the church during services.
In 1982, the building at Hearne Avenue was purchased. In 1990, Bishop Lewis T. Hilton Sr., passed the mantle of pastor to his eldest son Lewis T. Hilton, Jr. (more affectionately known as Bobby). Pastor Bobby had been assisting his father and preaching since 1983. In April of 1996, the saints moved into the current location of 11331 Southland in Forest Park, Ohio (a suburb of Cincinnati). In order to prepare for that service, some members worked all through the previous night putting on the finishing touches. Local media was present to capture the momentous occasion, and interview Pastor Hilton. It was also at this time that Church of Deliverance was renamed Word of Deliverance Ministries for the World, Inc. This ministry has come a long way, and is experiencing exponential growth.
Word of Deliverance has two Sunday morning services as well as a Sunday evening service to accommodate the increase. "Taking the Word to the World" with Bishop Bobby Hilton is now broadcast on local cable stations, local network affiliates, and national cable television networks. New ministries are constantly being developed to cater to the needs of the whole man, woman, boy and girl (spirit, soul, and body).
